  • First and foremost, take Factor4 power shakes before meals. By reducing appetite levels you will automatically decrease your intake of calories. By re-orienting or re-adapting your taste buds from low-value foods to high-value foods, you will automatically decrease your intake of empty calories.

Now that delicious Factor4 power shakes, snacks, smoothies, desserts and meal replacements have been added to your diet, you can accelerate weight loss by following these simple rules:

  • Lower your sugar intake by 75 to 90%. This means that you avoid drinking soft drinks and colas and greatly reduce your intake of fruit juices as well. This means drinking smaller glasses, by 50%, of fruit juice. At home this is no problem. In restaurants, simply avoid these sugar-rich drinks. Regarding sugar-rich foods (candy, cakes, cookies, pastries, sticky buns etc.) avoid these altogether!
  • If you drink coffee black, go ahead and enjoy this pleasure. If you add sugar, sugar substitutes and/or cream/milk, give up the coffee and switch to tea to satisfy that warm drink feeling that you crave in the mornings and at break times. Remember that coffee is a mild gastric irritant that is better avoided if you want to improve your health.
  • Lower starchy carbohydrate foods by half. This means portion control, reducing portion sizes of starch-rich foods (bread, potatoes, rice and pasta) by half. Reduce your intake of bread by at least half, better by 75%. When the sandwich comes, remove the bread. When the turkey burger comes out, remove the buns. When rice or potatoes are served, simply eat half.
  • By reducing starch-rich foods you will make room for so called “Superfoods”, these vegetables, fruits and nuts that are rich in fiber and phytonutrients (antioxidants). Yes, eat as many of these brightly colored Superfoods as possible. Variety is important as recommended by the Department of Agriculture.
  • Avoid saturated fats at all costs. All fat-containing salad dressings, sauces and butter should be ordered “on the side.” Use them with great care!
  • Desserts containing saturated fats should be avoided at all costs. Minimize cakes, cookies and pies to special occasions and further minimize portions when indulging. Occasionally, when eating with friends in restaurants, order one dessert for multiple people and share the joy, allowing you to continue to enjoy the pleasures of taste. Order hot tea at the same time so that you have something warm to sip on.
  • Use a wide variety of fruits in place of desserts. Blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries covered with 2 oz of Factor4 or soymilk make for delicious desserts which are short on calories and long on taste. Add a couple of drops of Grand Marnier for the “finest desserts in the world” and my favorites.
  • Avoid table salt, salt-rich foods and excessive use of salt in cooking.
  • If you are still hungry take another Factor4 power shake!
  • Increase the ratchet & further squeeze down to eliminate excess in empty calories: Trade more high-value foods and Factor4 power shakes for low-value foods
  • Decrease the calories in the liquid used to make the Factor4 power shakes. For example, consider the empty calories in 8 oz liquids that may be used:
    • Fruit Juice will add 20 grams of sugar and 80 calories to the shake
    • 100% Soymilk flavored with vanilla will add 7 grams of sugar, 3.5 grams of fat and 100 calories to the shake
    • 50% Soymilk (1:1 dilution with water) will add 3.5 grams of sugar, 1.75 grams of fat and 50 calories to the shake
    • Water is the best. (No sugar, carbohydrate, fat or additional calories added)

Treat the “Sedentary Trap”

  • Increase your physical activity
  • Increase sporting activities, either solitary activities (e.g. swimming, biking, walking, hiking, running) or team activities (e.g. soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, hockey)
  • Engage in a “starter exercise” for 8-10 minutes every morning before dressing
  • Add a 45 to 60 minute exercise workout to your daily routine (join a gym; swimming pool or develop your own running or walking routine)
